Trottle Position Sensor '88 TB

Hey,

I did not see anything on this part by searching, so this thread.  Find that the engine was racing (and with racing idle).  Also have had occurrences of more cranking for a start--not usual (this starting issue for awhile).  The racing caused the engine to heat up fast and made the Tbird almost undriveable.  Pulled codes and came up 21--TPS.  Removed it and drove--with that, the engine will just border on stalling at acceleration--and lights the service light.    Installed new TPS and all resolved.  This thing is nothing more than a sprung electrical rheostat/input I'd say.  It operates with the trottle--your foot on the gas. The rheostat must have been pitted out? 
Anyway, this part is mounted on the trottle shaft opposite the cable side.  Reminds me of the 1960s choke spring coil mounted on Rochester Carbs and whatever else--for some reason.  Could definitely be an engine problem nightmare for someone if partially failed.

Try searching  "TPS". There has been a bunch of discussion on how to adjust and or replace the TPS
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Yep,

I screwed up--pays to know how to spel?  I also misquoted the code as I was writing from presumed memory at this desk and the paper I write the code on --was in the garage at the time.  The number is 23.  Thanks guys--the wife is happy and I remind her that the diagnosis, repair and cost of this problem (by me)--makes keeping this TBird-- wonderful. I hope for such successes in the future--although the parts presumbly will be harder to come by, I suspect.  I paid $41 for this part but it was immediately available at Autozone--a Wells part.  I was going to pry open the old one as I am curious like that, but the Ford part appears seamless and not worth the time/investment.
