5.0 from F-150 ???

Just curious if anyone knows off hand if the 5.0 in a 93 Ford F-150 has the same type or simular flat top pistons as our stock 5.0 motors have or if they have the valve relief pistons simular to the HO engines? As well are the intakes,cam any different than the SO engines? This is mostly just curiousity as i have never really given the engines from pick ups much thought before now. I know the heads are obviously E7TE just no idea about the internals. Stock HP numbers to if anybody knows. Thanks guys/gals.

I belive the truck motor is the same as the H.O. just no HYD roller cam. The did change to hyd roller in the '94 F150 motors.
  The later truck motors have knock sensors in the rear of the block behind the intake.

Weird...I was under the impression that all 5.0 after 86 were roller blocks, any reason why not the trucks? Any one else have further input?

The blocks were roller, the cams weren't. I believe you can still use a roller cam in the blocks.

I had always thought all non-HO engines, including the truck engines, used the old 302 firing order while the HO used the 351 firing order. I also thought they had cast flattop pistons like our SO's...

Truck blocks didn't get the roller cam until 94.  The lift profiles on the truck cams is the same as the cams in our birds and cats. The firing order is the same as well.  I'm not sure if the duration is the same (can't find info on duration #'s for the truck).  The truck 5.0 was a roller block with E7 heads, the long runner truck manifold (which flows VERY well, but won't fit to well under a car hood unless you have a 5 inch cowl).

The computers were all bank/batch fire type speed density until 94 when they switched to a roller cam and went mass air simultaneously.  The trucks also came with 19 pound injectors.  Hope this helps;)

Probably a stupid question but... there would be nothing stopping someone from installing a roller cam etc in this block? And for sure they have flattop pistons? thanks again.

While your at the junkyard pulling the truck motor, tear the intake off of a crownvic or something and take the roller lifters, keepers and the tensioner device.  You will have to get a roller cam but those are cheap anymore.

You would need a roller cam, roller lifters, the spider plate, and the correct length pushrods.

only grab the lower intake while your there off it. Same as the holley lower, has no PCV provision in the back nor EGR. The pcv valve will have to be moved to the drivers valve cover like a carbed setup. Delete the egr and drill tap runner #5 for the ACT sensor like you would have to with a exploder lower. then buy you a nice holley upper and noone would be the wiser unless they look for the ford casting# lol.

I just snagged one for my mustang :D just need the holley upper now haha.

Dunno if if they are forged but they definatly have valve relifs...

basic rule

All 5.0s with E7 heads have valve relifs... 5.0s with E6 heads got the flattops, which include the '86 Stang & LSC HO. Also the '87 LSC HO used the flattops as they still had the 200hp 5.0...

As far as the blocks, I have a 85.5 truck block that is roller. The holes for the spyder bolts were never tapped but otherwise there is no reason a roller cam won't work in it... And yes the trucks used the SO 15426378 firing order...

The reason I wondered about the pistons in the truck blocks was because I have a set of aluminum eddie heads with the 1.9 intake valves that i can not use on my flat top piston engine in my bird. A good freind of mine had a 1993 Ford F150 that he had rebuilt the motor in and had only put 5000 km on the engine when the truck was rolled so he zoinked the complete motor out of it and put it in his garage for the last 3 years saving it for a rainy day. Now I have the chance to pick it up very cheap and would like to swap out my shortblock and put in the truck block with chance of using these heads and not have any PVC issues with these heads. So...is it possible to use these heads with the new truck short block seeing as though there are reliefs in the pistons of the truck motors? I would then put on my HO intakes, cam etc and complete a HO conversion with the way better than E7 heads that are on it now. I am quite sure it would be all good to go but I am just looking for some good input the guys/gals in this forum. Thanks in advance.

There's an exception to every rule.  The SO 302 in my 83 carbed Tbird came with valve relief pistons.  Just a little quirk of the assembly line I guess.  Don't know if they're forged or not.

Mustang 5.0 Technical Reference and Performance Handbook shows 92 - 93 F150's having the SO roller cam. Then 94 - 96 F150's having the late model 5.0 Explorer's better breathing roller cam. So according to this book, your 93 block should already have the roller lifters, keepers, hold down spider and correct push rods.
