Wheel/spindle clearance? December 28, 2004, 06:01:58 PM Hey folks,I put 16" Lincoln LS wheels on my '96 Cougar. It required 1/4" wheel spacers on the fronts due to the slight difference in offset. Now, the fitment between the inner lip of the wheel and the spindle is VERY close... so close that one of the small inner wheel weights rubs against the spindle. My question is:Is it OK to have the wheel this close to the spindle? Do the parts ever move separately to the point where they would make contact?I'll be moving that weight, so it isn't a problem. The wheels fit fine on the back of the car.Any help is appreciated. Re: Wheel/spindle clearance? Reply #1 – December 28, 2004, 06:20:20 PM Take the rims to a tire shop and have them balance them with tape weights on the inside of the rim. Or you could just take a hammer and tap the weight to make a little more clearence. Quote Selected
Re: Wheel/spindle clearance? Reply #2 – December 28, 2004, 06:26:08 PM youll be fine once you have the wheel weights moved to the inside of the rim, the only way youll have problems is if your wheel bearings in the hub go bad, and thatll be a long while Quote Selected
