Beggining of a new age! (Well, its 21 now..)

Hey all,

About a year ago a guy offered me "a car" I didnt know what it was, I didnt know if it ran, or anything. He offered it to my dad, for me as a first car. I handed my dad the 200 bucks the guy wanted for.. whatever it was, and my dad drove home a filthy white car. Underneath the dirt, once I finally chiseled it all off, was a beautiful 85 Cougar LS. I think anyway. It has some rust, some interior wear, and etc. But everything but the A/C Works, and it runs great. Being a 16 year old minimum wage maker I cant really come up with these immaculate beasts you guys have, but one day I will.

My plans are to buy another car, and garage this one, in the meantime, restoring to a Cougar "SS" or Super-Stock. I dont want a 20 billion horsepower racecar, I just want a "loaded" cougar. One that looks and feels like it just rolled off the factory with every option avalible, and had every dealer accesory installed. I might do some light HP boosters, aftermarket cams, tb's etc. Just to make it purrr a little louder, but honestly, I just want a cool cougar, not just a fast car in a cougars body. Im gonna stick with cougar rims, (I like some of the new edge factory rims, I also like my factory rims too) But I think my earliest upgrades, will be power seats, full digital dash (which I have found on eBay, and a full tCoupe with a digital dash in a junkyard) Maybe a tripminder upgrade if I can find one.

I will post some pics in the next couple of days, when I have a little time (to wash it!) All in all, for a 21 year young car, it looks pretty darn good. Its reliable, runs great, and does get a few looks, and a few "nice car"'s when I rev it up. It still has stock exhaust, but in the age of import tuners and economy cars, people have forgotten what a V8 sounds like.

Current setup:
5.0L EFI (Dropped in by previous owner, I believe an '88 motor)
Power Windows/Mirrors
14" polycast road wheels
Base Dash
Most of the common LS options, nothing aftermarket so far

Hope to get pictures soon so you guys can tell me what you think. Anyone have any ideas?

-John

//Edit
//Pictures!!

Alright, here they are. I have a nicer camera, but I couldnt find it so I had to use this one, which did an incredibly horrible job. But these will suffice I guess.

Hood emblem!

My favorite part of the car, the emblem located to the rear of the rear corner window

Da-Dash,

You thought I forgot, didnt you? Heres how my kitten me-ows

Finally, my rims. When I got the car there was no paint at all left on them, and they were screatched horribly. I boguth a $3 can of Krylon chrome-aluminum spray paint. Hoping I could make it look good for like a week at least, more-less I was experimenting. I used a full can, about 2 coats on each wheel, and 6 weeks later they still look excellent, I think anyway.

A tip about painting these like that:
Get some liquid dish soap and a paintbrush, lather the tires up nicely with soap, make sure not to get any on the rims, then spray away, the paint will go away from the tires as soon as you drive it 3 or 4 miles, thanks to the soap.

Welcome to the board!  Technically, according to the DMV, your car is 22 years old ('07s and all).  Another thing, if you get the full digital dash, you won't need the tripminder.

Welcome John

I too purchased my first car (a 88 cougar LS, the only cougar that i have ever seen that has NO OPTIONS, and i'm not joking) It was start that jumped me to this cougar craze. I purchased another cougar w/ more options and now i'm going from there.

Coolcats.net and this msg board has saved me numerous times and have given me ideas and the will power to move on with future projects.

Glad you made it here and sounds like your a cool person. Looking forward onto seeing pics.

Hey guys!

CoolCats can probably attain 5,000 hits thanks to me, I live on that site, in fact I looked at my history, and I was seldom at any other sites. I love their tech section especially. Anyway... Ether, I live near St.Louis MO, but right now I dont have the money to buy anything extra, like a power seat rack. The reason I want another car, as much as I love driving my cougar, is because I live on gravel roads. The other day I hit a big rock driving home and it took out my left rack and pinion, and my left shock. So I am without power-steering and that is, right now my primary concern.

Thanks guys, hope to get to know you all, Ill get some pics up later today if I can.

Where around STL are you?  I'm out in Rolla for school right now, it's rather lonely from the cougar 'scene' out here.

David,

Mizzou is actually farther away from me than St.Louis is, im about an hour from it. I live quite out in the middle of nowhere, near St.Clair if you know where that is.

I am going to go clean out my car a little more, then snap some "shoots" Its body is in rough shape, but it rides good.

I'll resize the pics later guys, sorry but i was in a hurry. They are compressed down to small size (like 40-200k a piece) but they are still in a high resolution, again, sorry.
