Anyone feeling the 1G Alternator Blues?

I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has a problem with Fords completely underpowered 1st Generation alternator.
Supposedly at 45-65 amps I cant seem to turn up my 500 watt amp for very long without it cutting out on me.

If anyones having the same kind of problems, let me know if you've found a solution, or maybe a High Performance Alternator to boot.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I cooked four alternators with the sound system in my first two Cougars.
I suppose I've grown out of it as I'm totally satisfied with the stock cassette unit in my XR7. Then again, any aftermarket unit in that dash would look terrible.
I'll sacrifice sound for stock appearance.

My stock alt. is going out, I removed my system and put it in my DD. Kinda wierd to be at a stoplight and give her some gas and the lights brighten.

Cougrr302 that doesn't mean your alt is going out that is just normal 1g alt operation. Trust me my 84 did the same thing with a new alt and regulator, I even rewired the setup and got rid of that py plug.  Just do as the others say and upgrade to a newer style alt. I got one for the 94 stang 5.0 It is 130 amp and I never have the headlights dim anymore. I was a very basic swap I know you can find the info on how to do the swap by doing a search or over at coolcats. I recomend this upgrade to any bird/cougar owner.

The 3g swap? I have printed out some info on that. I'm finishing the cosmetic side of my car right now. Hood, rims, and then exhaust. After that comes Electronics and Engine. I decided to rip out my stereo and go stock AM/FM Cd Changer and subs. I think the 3g would be a great way to go, funds available.
