spuot connector

quick question, had a little miss in my car (88 5.0)new plugs,wires,cap,rotor,timing chain,bearings,oil pump,valve job,etc,etc., did all this 6-7 months ago, car runs good for 200,000 miles,loks good too, anyways had a little miss at idle, but the other day i decided to check my timing,set it at 14 deg.spout connector out, set timing and guess what?? no miss anymore, but today i noticed that i forgot to put my spout back in so i put it back in and my miss at idle is back, took it back out (engine off) and no miss at idle. what's up with that???!!! does it hurt leaving the spout out?? what else can i check?? info please-------thanks  :dunno:

With the sput out you get no timing advance, Id back the timing down a little to 10-12 and check again, Also your control module( mounted to the side of the Dist) could be going bad. What grade gas are you running??Winter mixes in some areas suck and you might need to try a higher grade if you keep the timing up that high.

running 93 octane, no spark knock nothing, kick it down at 45-50 car just keeps a gettin it

Well if its just an idle thing, maybe the IAC needs to be cleaned? EGR posibly, hard to diagnose that type thing.

cleaned iac, egr vacuum hose disconnected(bad selonoid)checked plugs, nice and whiteish tan, burning good,tps set at 98.7. like i say, the car runs good, just that little miss at idle,,,,,thanks for all the help, but anymore tips would be thankful!!  thanks again

Sounds like youve covered all the bases, are the injectors the original ones? if so have they ever been cleaned?

injectors came out of a 87 bird all clean,all new o-rings and screens, pvc, throttle body, air filter, all clean and once again thanks for the help!!  any more would be thankful

I'm 99% sure your problem will have to be elecrical, probably TFI related. Have you checked the timing with the SPROUT connected?? If it is advancing too much,(past 42*-45*)the idle will likely be rough. Maybe you can pull the timing back to 6*-8*(sprout disc), and smooth it out. Reducing the base timing would be a far better solution than just disconnecting the sprout.

Check your plug wire routing. Wires to plugs that fire sequentially should not run parallel and next to each other. On the 302 engine this would be 7 and 8. The magnetic field around the 7 wire affects the timing of the 8 plug. This used to be called crossfire. Have not heard the term used for a while.

first off thanks for all your help,,,re-checked timing yesterday,and is set at 12* , also i remember checking my codes a month or so ago and kept coming up with KOER code 18( which is ?? ) the car really runs strong for the mileage(knock on wood!!!) but once again Thanks for all the help
