Should be able to just rub it off with your hand or with a brush, probabally best to remove it first as it makes a big mess. Or just take it out and recover it.

Mine is in the same condition as yours, and I've been contemplating whether or not to try and pull it my self and recover it, or to go to a local shop to get it profesionally done.  My visors need to be recovered too.  It's pretty gross stuff too like a yellow brownish powder when it falls off.

if you  unscrew the top plastic trim and visors and drop the foam covered cardboard then you can you can cover it for a lot cheaper with a little spary glue and some fabric

Don't forget to take out the dome light. Then just use a bondo spreader to rake off the old foam. Next head to the nearest upolstry shop for some head liner material. Next make sure you get headliner spray glue. This is the 3M heavy duty stuff not that Super77 stuff this is normally $15-20 a can. Next glue it and cut it then reinstall. Make sure you only cut smallholes for wiring to poke thru. Take about 2 hours depending on it you have all the materials already or not.

On my 80 after a failed attempt at glueing it I ended up stapling it around the sides and dome light. Gave it a nice cushy soft look that fits in with the car.

Mines Still got the cloth, But it was drooping all around where it wasnt being supported by a trim piece or the dome light. :giggle:

I managed to get the whole headliner out of the car through the car door. :hick:
I did this back when i first got it.
Thinking back on it now.. How the hell did i manage that without creasing it, lol. :giggle:

It's sitting in the garage waiting for a makeover now.
