how do you tell if a t-bird is a sport?

Are ya sure it was a Sport (P61)? I was under the assumption that all Sports had floor shifters. The car you describe actually sounds more like an LX (P62). I had actually forgotten all about this thread, and had meant to address one of Tom's statements:

My '87 Sport was as you describe single exaust and all(the fake one into two didn't appear till '88).
My late '87 (manufactured May 87) had the fake duals. It may not have been factory, though, as the car was already over a decade old when I bought it, but I can't see somebody actually going through the trouble to install all that  instead of true duals, which is what I did after a tailpipe decided to part company on the way to the cottage one day...

My 87 TBird V6 has the base cluster, power seat, power mirrors, auto dimming lights, cruise, full tripminder, rear sway bar, power windows/locks, 60/40 seats and A/C. I looked at the VIN and it is a P60. Is this correct?

P60 is the base Bird, a lot of your equipment was optional...
