Idle problems

Alright guys I just had a 1988 Cougar LS passed down to me from my parents. They were the original 1st time owner of the car. It runs fairly well, but it does seem to have problems idling. It seems that the idle is set to low. It idles around 500 rpm. When first cranking the car it has problems staying running while at idle. It normally takes 3 to 4 re-cranks before it will finally stay running. And if you just try to crank it and take off without first letting it warm up then it will cut off when you come to a stop sign or have stop for any reason. I think it would do better if I could adjust the idle to run higher but this has the SEFI set up and I’m not sure how to or if I can do this. If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

REad your reply. Went out and pulled the piece off and cleaned it real good with carb cleaner. Put it back on and walla. Now idles at 800 rpm and doesn't sound like it's on theverge of cutting off anymore. Thanks for your help. I LOVE THIS SITE.
