hello again. i was wondering what flowmaster ler you would recommend on a 3.8 v6 i was looking at the 30 series on the website because it doesnt sound as aggressive as the 40 series but i dont know. or the hushpower sounds nice but i dont want people to think that i have a huge engine under my hood when all i have is a y little v6. thanks

I think youre going to want to go with a more aggressive flowmaster with that particular engine.  An over the axle exhuast with a long tailpipe is going to sound smoother - and I assume thats what you want to have.  The other way is to just dump it right after the ler, but that probably will be too loud and/or annoying  (thats what i did to my truck, and a few of my friends, all with 6 cylinder engines of various sizes - its an easy and lazy way out)

What do you want?  Replace the ler only?  Or do a complete exhaust from the ler back?  Dual-look?

I would go with the 40 series ler. The higher the # the quiter they are. the 40 series sound pretty good on a 3.8. What body style is your car? Fox/MN-12 ?

correct me if I'm wrong but I was told that the 40 series is the best and you get the best sound out of. I was told the lower the number the better the ler until you come to the 30 and 40 series where the 40 series is better than the 30. When I had the n/a 3.8 I had dual exhaust from the cat back with no lers and it sounded pretty good. Right now I have dual from the engine back with no cats through an h-pipe and through two 40 series flowmasters, its sounds much better. I also got 40 series on my truck and my mother wants to get an exhaust on her truck but wants it to sound good but doesn't want it too loud so the guy reccommended 30 or 50 series. I also have a 40 series on my camaro, it sounds good but still have the cat so it's not too loud. I can play you a clip of my exhaust in a week or so, whenever I get a chance to record it, if u want. I don't know how you want it to sound but with a 3.8 v6, you're not going to get a muscular v8 sound, if thats what you're looking for.

I put a 40 series on my 88 5.0 and it's pretty mean.  My friend get's a kick out of the car alarms I set off.  It's the only ler I'll put on my vehicles now.  I also have a cat-back with a dump right from the ler so it tends to make the inside loud too.  Depends on what you like.

Quick edit...  Take a look at Aero Exhaust.  I spoke with the owner of a local performance shop and he told me these were great lers.  They sound good on a V6 and have more muscle on a V8.  Personally if I didn't buy a Flowmaster I'd buy one of these.

ive got 40s on my car now. theres an exaust clip in the tread for thad. its a 302 though. they are alright. im not a huge fan of flowmasters but they work/sound good enough. they will stay till i can get a complete magnaflow setup.
no ideah how they would sound on the 3.8. my buddy has one on his 4.0 ranger...it sounds alright.

The only V6 I've ever heard that sounded any good was a clip of a '99+ V6 that had short tube headers, and offroad X, and flowmaster 40's. Actually sounded decent, most V6's sound like garbage (especially with glasspacks).

If you want, you can listen to some clips on mustangexhaust.com.

you can make them sound pretty sweet while they are idling. but put a loat on the engine and the sound goes right to hell. sounds about as good as if ya just stepped on a cats paw....

:iagree:

A 3.8 will not sound like a 5.0 no matter what ler you put on your car. The only way to get that "V8" sound is to have a V8.
