5.0L--->5.0L HO swap (88 T bird)

Hi guys, I know this has been asked before but the search brought nothing up. :dunno:

I may be picking up a new toy this weekend, (88 5.0L T-bird with some mods.)  If I get this car I am planning to swap my '90 LX drivetrain into it.

Is it just plug and play? Like I think, (engine wiring and the computer? or do I have to re-pin the comp harness?)

Any help/info would be GREATLY appreciatied. :bowdown:

Thanks.

I'm thinking the length of the AOD might be different... but probably isn't.  I think that was just a Lincoln thing.  Can't really help on the wiring, but if memory serves the harness is different... however you should be able to use the existing harness (88 bird harness)... get an HO computer from a Mustang... and then add on the MAF (if you have it) wires.

Thanks brian, but It wont be AOD.  I will be putting everything from my 1990 Mustang LX into it.  5.0L, MAF, T5, 5 bolt swap, etc.

Thats what I'm wondering, can I just drop the motor in, plug in all the sensors/injectors, plug the HO comp in and go fry some rubber?  or will I just be friing the electronics instead?

I'm thinking the answer is yes, it will all plug in, but I need comfirmation from somebody that has done it.

Use the TBird harness with a MAF conversion kit.  It is definitely plug and play.  The pedals suck to put in.  While you are picking apart that Stang, take off the front brakes and put those on too.  It is a big improvement over stock brakes.  If you put the Stang rear in it, it will be a little narrower than yours.  But it will fit.

Yup what 88lx50 said.... Get a mass air conversion kit and use the original wiring harness. The Mustang harness will not plug in to a Bird with out modifing it.

Here's a conversion harness: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=45244&prmenbr=361

Putting the harness in: http://www.stangnet.com/tech/maf/massairconversion.html

T-Bird wiring is nearly identical to SD Mustang - just get ECU wiring schematic.

Changing the pedals in is about the most difficult part of it.
