Re: no low end punch Reply #1 – November 08, 2004, 05:00:25 PM My 87 XR7 has similar mods and sounds like it performs about the same. I'm gonna get a 3000 stall convertor to bring it up in the power band on launch. It really kicks in around 2800-3000. Don't forget, these cars are not light like the mustang your engine came out of (mine is 3756 lbs with driver - i weighed it). What was the weather like when you ran? Mine has run 14.56 @96 in near perfect weather but on a day with less than perfect air I can only run 14.90s. My best 60' was 2.09 but I average 2.19 - again depends on weather. My buddy with a 91 Stang usually runs 14.0s but slows down just as much as me in bad air. (14.4s) Also, his car ran 16.40 bone stock, so 15.3 isn't all bad. Are you shifting manually? This really makes a big difference, like 2-3 tenths.Who says you should be in the 14s? This summer I beat a 1966 Chev Bel-air 427 4spd!! :rollin: He was in the 15s all day. So much for all that legendary muscle car (I also know of 2 428 cj cars in town running 15s so don't expect miracles from a small engine - at least not without heads, cam & intake). Remember these only made 225hp stock and exhaust might add 20-30hp max.1987 XR7 - 1991 HO/manual computer Mac shorties, Bassani offroad X, Ravin lers, Dynomax tails, Underdrive pulleys, K&N, Vortech 73mm MAF, Shift kit in rebuilt AOD (Slippage will cost you!!),3.73s. Re: no low end punch Reply #2 – November 09, 2004, 02:20:48 PM Sounds like blakct hit it on the head with the converter. While you're at it you might want to put in a shift kit in the ol' AOD. That way you'll have some more RPM's to play with. You CAN adjust your shift point with the TV cable, but the kit will give you even more and get rid of most of the slop in the shifts. Quote Selected

Re: no low end punch Reply #4 – November 26, 2004, 04:37:23 AM Stang rev limiter is at 6200. I shift at 5900 . If you can borrow a stang computer, try it(do you have MAF?) The TV connects to the throttle body right beside the throttle cable and cruise control cable. It's square and black. Mark it's ooriginal location first. Tighten it by about 1/16 of an inch and test drive it. If you still want more tighten it 1/16 more. Don't overdo it and NEVER loosen it too much or you will kill your tranny. Check Coolcats - I think there might be more on the subject- but I'm not 100% sure. Also - I'm assume no responsibility for any problems you may cause by improper adjustment. Be careful Quote Selected
