Here's the case I ended up ordering.  Had to get it from a different site because newegg was out of 'em!

So, do you think I'll still notice a big speed difference even though I have an old Athlon XP 1800 right now?  1.5GHz to 1.8GHz isn't a HUGE jump, but maybe the 64-bit-ness of the Sempr0n will give it an advantage.

Case looks good! Is it an Antec or a clone of? As for the speed difference, you should notice it like night and day. Especially with the faster memory and hard drive.

It's an Antec.  I had originally shyed away from it because of the hot-rodder look louvres in the front, but I realized it will be a lot easier to just cover up the beige drives than try to find black bezels for both of them.  Case was only $49 and it will be on my doorstep some time today!  Only thing that's queer about it is the fact that the power buttons are behind the door, but that's no big deal, I'll live with it, I guess.  Because this whole thing is a Christmas gift, it has to be wrapped and then re-opened on Christmas morning.  So, instead of wrapping each component individualy, I think I'll assemble the computer either today or tommorow and give my mother the assembled computer insdie the box the case came in, for her to wrap up.  Sounds stupid, because I obviously know what it is, but it's just tradition I guess.

Ok, I got a couple of nagging questions regarding this new PC before swap over my CD/DVD Drives and Network card and fire it up tommorow.

1.)  The mobo has three USB headers on the board plus an additional 4 ports mounted to the board itself.  I used one of the headers to go to the 2 front ports in the case.  Included with the board came an expansion card plate with 2 additional  ports on it.  The confusing part is, instead of having 1 plug to go to the headers, it has 2.  One large one with 2 bundled wires going into it and one small one, which appears as if it runs the lights on the expansion card plate.  Do I need to plug both of these in?  It seems odd that the two ports on the front use only one plug to the USB header, but the two additional ones in the back use 2 plugs.  Any ideas?

2.)  Wow, this power supply has the most ridiculous amount of wire coming out if it that I've ever seen.  Coming straight off of it is a standard 20-pin ATX plug.  Not realizing that I had a 20-to-24-pin adapeter included with the PS, I just plugged the 20-pin into the 24-pin socket on the board, as the manual states you are able to do.  Is it beneficial to use the 20-24 adapter in there?  I also plugged in the small black & yellow 4-pin power wire (for the CPU I guess?)  The use of a 24-pin doesn't negate this 4-pin thing, does it?

Any guidance is greatly appreciated.  Like I said, I've been out of the computer game for too long!  Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

Every MSI I have had, that second set of connectors goes to a light system that just tells the status of the boot sequence,

also, the 24 pin is for an extra 12V rail. Used mostly for 64-bits, or so I have been told. Wont matter too much, sempr0ns use alot less power then most 64-bits, but I would plug in the adaptar just for kicks.

Sorry, somehow I missed this post for a couple of days. :bricks:

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Well, I used the adapter and all is well, for the most part.  The CPU chills at no higher than 35 degrees, if I remember correctly and everything loads up nice & fast.  However, there are more problems:

Concerning the DVD and CD burners, this time.  The mobo came with thier own version of a "round" cable which was basically a flat cable with ties around it, scrunching it up.  I used it on the CD drives and the nicer-looking, true round cable from ebay on the hard drive.

With the CD drives, it seems that sometimes the drive won't autoplay, takes forever to start spinning up, etc.  The most annoying problem with this is, say I had a DVD-Rom of backed up files stuck in there, I take it out, switch to a different one.  When I go into explorer to take a look at the contents of the second DVD, the computer remembers the contents of the first one and displays them instead.  Could this be a chitty cable problem?

Also, I bought Doom3 last night and it took about 20 tries to get it to recognize the 3rd installation CD. Kept prompting me that it was the wrong CD, insert disk 3.  Could all these problems stem from a bad IDE cable?  If so, I have another of the higher-quality (it seems) cables from ebay.  However, it's 36" long and I recall reading somewhere that ATA133 cables shouldn't be any longer than 18".  If it slows down the drive read time that's not a HUGE deal, it'd be almost worth it if I could access the contents of the disc more readily.  And, this problem is not just with the DVD drive, it happens just as frequently in the CD drive, which I hardly ever use anyway.

Thanks for everyone's help and patience with this new machine.  The $500 was worth every penny.
