Smog Pump Removal

Ok just incase anyone remebers me saying i was selling my car for a 240sx, then yes it was me and no that fell threw when i put $600 worth of suspension to get the car back to normal(one strut actually blew out). Anyway shortly after i put in a full true dual exhaust and removed the cats. My question is can you take the smog pump out(to free up HP) :D  and still have the ecu not go crazy over missing it? BTW its an 87 3.8l

And replace it with a supercharger!

It has been said before, but dumping the smog pump isn't going to net you any more HP. The pump outlet is bypassed to atmosphere during WOT bursts. The EEC will throw 44/94 KOER codes, but that doesn't affect anything.

:iagree:  The only gain you'll see is due to the fact there is one less pulley to spin.  That said you won't notice 1 or 2 HP.  The pump does not even weigh that much so no big deal in the weight reduction department.  The biggest advantage would be a less cluttered engine bay.

And since its a 3.8 once you remove the pump remove the plumbing also. You will be able to chnage those spark plugs.

I used to hate changing the plugs on the passenger side, but after doing it 7-8 times, it is a piece of cake.

I removed mine for two reasons, 1) i never connected the tube after putting in the HO engine/exhaust 2) the tab on the timing cover that the lower bolt goes into was broken so the pump just slapped around anyway...that made the installation of full length headers much easier.
