How secure?

My project to pull my 302 is proceeding slowly but steadily and just now I'm wondering what I'm going to do when it actually comes time to release the engine from its mounts and from the transmission.  If I unbolt it will it just sit there until I apply some upward force?  Will it fall out of the car unless I already have the hoist and cable in place?  I ask cause pulling the last bolts with the hoists legs stuck under the car with me would be a hell of a nuisance.

Actually maybe what I"ll do is unbolt everything but the upper transmission bolts and then secure the hoist to the engine.  Give me a little peace of mind.

when you take out all the bolts the engine will drop a little but thats it. it will sit in the car without a problem. and once everything is unbolted and unhooked from the engine it will come out without a prob

Gravity holds it in place..the hardware on the motor mounts just keep it from flying out the top :p.

You could loosen/remove both the motor mounts at the K-member and the trans mount and nothing would happen.

Loosen all your stuff from below and then get the rest from up top.  You won't need the hoist until the very end when you're ready to pull.
