4.6 4 cam possibilities August 19, 2005, 07:01:56 PM when i was at the u pull it the other day and found a mkviii, that old dream came to mind.a dohc v8 in any thing would be awsome.i remember when the mod v8s came out is when the dream started.my dream car would be a 63 ford galaxy with a 427 sohc.who the hell could afford a real 427 sohc?so thats when the ideal of taking a mod motor and building my own dual 4 brrl intake(you know, those things they use to call carburators)and somehow mount a distributor off the front timing cover like the old gasser sohc's.(i should have patent those ideals for the mod motors).i can probably pick up that whole engine for less than $200.00.all aluminum ,crossbolt mains, and dual overhead cams.the only thing better than that and p***y would be a dohc with a 6-71 or 8-71 with an enderle 3 hole bug cather on top.,gotta change my drawers now! Re: 4.6 4 cam possibilities Reply #1 – August 20, 2005, 07:32:59 PM I like yiour idea, however you would have to use a 4valve 4.6 made after 98 with something like an 8-71 blower. The earlier block are known to have some inherent design flaws that make them more likely to do bad things when subjected to a lot of boost. 6 or 8 PSI would be OK. Anything more would be pushing it. Re: 4.6 4 cam possibilities Reply #2 – August 20, 2005, 10:23:31 PM X2C motorsports makes a distributer conversion for the modular 4.6 DOHC and i think the SOHC as well. im about 95% sure this is the setup i will use with my swap. (i have a local guy whos a machinist as well as a ford guy making one for me). if i dont go with a 03-04 cobra engine ill have to get a imrc delete kit as well. i can then use the 88 electronics. there are a few more details obviously. its a very involved swap. for starters your going to need to convert to hydroboost brakes or go to manual brakes with the DOHC. im going to use a mark viii engine to begin with just to get everything spinning and working properly at a fraction of the cost. those modular cobra motors arent cheep.the other option will be the cobras electronics but its realy not the easiest way to go...other than that, a stand alone system (my second choice) would be the way to go. im sure carbing it like you want to would simplify things greatly but im just not a carb guy. anyway, its pretty awesome to hear somebody is interested in a similar swap to the one im doing. good luck with it if you go through with it... keep us posted! john Quote Selected
Re: 4.6 4 cam possibilities Reply #3 – August 21, 2005, 02:07:49 PM just rambling on and dreaming.wouldnt have the time or finances to pull off a swap like that.i was aware of the distributor kit, thats why i brought up the fact that i had thought about that many years ago. the luck.by the way,i was at the upullit again this morning and the engine is still there, complete.still say i could get it for less than 200. though.usually if its out in the yard like that,it $99.95 with exchange(any exchange).being that its the 4 cam is why i added an extra hundred to the price.
