1992 ford tempo GLS

EDIT...sorry, thought i was in MIS wanted section... :(

actually, any detailed info on them. i used to have a ton of links wich no longer work. ive been tinkering with the idea of buying one IF i can find one. im more likely gonna find that i will have to build one. if the 3.0L v6 in those (vulcan?) is the same as the tauruses or some manifestation of the rangers v6 then id be in good shape. the real question is WTF did they use for the transaxle in the 5 speed with the v6? possibly the 6 cyl stuff or more likely sho stuff? any help would be GREATLY appreciated guys. i know this isnt realy the place for it but i cant find anything else realy. id realy rather build a GLS than convert my ranger to a V8....anyways...as always, thanks for your time!

Good question.
I saw a video of a guy with a 5-speed 3.0l Topaz who ran low-15s in the 1/4 mile.

Yea would love to find one but they are super rare.
Not sure of the trans but the 3.0l is the same as the older taurus's of the same year,v6 in block mazda engine, reliable and quick in the lighter tempo.
Have fun trying to find the skirt kit and fogs if you are going to build one.

I don't think the SHO shared parts with anything, being the engine in the V6 cars was all Yamaha, contrary to popular belief.

-the manual trans was a decendant of the mtx used in the shos, but it was like its predecessor from which it comes:  the escort.  the autos were a straight atx automatic, no overdrive.  the drone would make you deaf on the interstate at 70mph, begging for another gear. they were great little cars for everyday drive, but very rare.  wish we still had ours.  bimini blue. traded it for my first sho.  there is a tempo/topaz website out there that has alot about them in it, and of course, some for sale.....good luck :toilet:

I thought that the v-6's were all wheel drive? That is what my dads tempo's owners manuel implies. Also I doubt it is the tarus engine I thought they were introducted in the tarus.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

-nope, all wheel drive was a pkg, just like gls was a pkg.  sho is taurus only, nothing is the same with the tempo, just a shared relationship on the mtx.  v6 tempos is the vulcan(rangers, aerostars, plain tauruses, windstars, etc) engine no relation to the sho....

but very rare

tell me about it. had i known at the time how rare it was i would have bought it back from the ins co after my gf stuffed the rear. the only GLS part that actually got wrecked was the spoiler. all of the gfx kit was good. mechanically the car was mint with like 68k ish miles. i could have swappet into a good car.

i was basically toying with the idea of making one. realy, it doesnt matter if i had the gfx. it was a nice, fun little car to drive. as long as the driveline parts and the harness and computer were readily available from other cars id consider giving it a go. im not sure if the brakes or suspension was different either.

i did see a guy that had swapped in an sho engine into a topaz (SHOPAZ) but it seemed hardly worth the effort although pretty neet.

i was just thinking id rather something like the gls i had as a daily/commuter than my ranger. the truck is getting a little annoying to me. im sure a 302 would put a smile on my face but i dunno...liking the sleeper tempo idea. the tbird will never pass off as a sleeper around here...towns too small.

anyway, thanks guys...
