shorty header question...

i just bought these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4564566017&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT will they bolt up to the 84 5.0 cfi motor? because ive looked at my headers and then these im unsure if they will bolt up. any opinion would be great thanx.

You need a Mustang H-Pipe and some kinda cat-back to finish the job.

If you've got a column shift, you'll have to change over to a floor shift. Unless somebody has figured a way around that...either way, a B&M looks nicer.

well ive been looking under the hood and by the looks of it the where the header mounts up to the head on the engine are different. the stock ones i have now look to have the bolts diagional from eachother. and these have em across from eachother. now i can see by that its possibul it isn't gonna bolt up. maybe change the heads?

Maybe he is talking about the how the cast manifolds have one long and one short bolt on each port?. Yes they will bolt up, you will need new bolts though! :D

Had a set on the ex's 83 5.0 w/ a column shift. I don't remember having to change anything.......

I think that it goes through part of the headers.

Stock mustang headers fit my '85 CFI car just fine. There's even an area that's already clearanced for the steering shaft. Column shifter doesn't interfere either. Direct bolt-on.

I guess it's just the later models that have clearance problems then...the linkage would have run right through the h-pipe a few inches after the header outlet. BTW, don't try sliding the shift lever off of the gear selector shaft...it usually results in snapping the shaft(on AOD's anyway)

I suspect the stock HO headers can be made to work fairly easily. But the aftermarket units are larger and not pinched for extra clearance. I know Ronnie used column shift with his 1 5/8 shorties, but was always having problems.

I've used 1 5/8 shorties with a column shift, my biggest problem was with the pre-cat on the driver side. It layed right under the shift bar for the AOD. It would "pop" the car into neutral when launched hard, and neutral is not a good place to be when your WOT
