I beat a new Corvette by 1 second at the track :D

I dunno, but there is something special about smoking a 'Vette at the track. It was especially satisfying since he has won the previous time we were matched (by chance) because I somehow shifted from 2nd to 5th (UGGGH!) the previous race. It was the only race I lost tonight and it was SO frustrating watching him pass me while I helplessly watched droning away in 5th. The next race I smoked him - 12.77 to 13.7 :D - that was so satisfying. I don't know much about 'Vettes, but he had four single chrome pipes (two pairs) exiting in the center rear of the car and it sounded nice. It was also my best run of the night - a night of smoking clutches, missed shifts and tire spinning.

60' - 1.989
1/4 - 12.77 @ 111.4 MPH

Terrible 60' and only one partially missed shift on that run :(

I have a UPR Blue Thunder shifter on top of my Tremec. The shifter is nice - either my clutch is out-of adjustment or otherwise messed up or the synchro's are messed up - I'm not sure yet.

a C6 ran a 13.7?  Something was wrong with that car or the driver didn't know how to drive.  From my understanding they are mid/high 12second cars (manuals) and I'm sure the autos aren't far behind.

Nonetheless good kill!

He was bypassing the burnout box so his 60' was a lousy 2.1 seconds, though mine wasn't much better at 1.99 sec.

He ran 13.7 @ 101.4 MPH - not bad - with traction it might turn 13.3 at best - the MPH just wasn't there though. I think it was an auto which might have hurt him some.

Why do you think it was a C6? my description or is that all they make now?

I don't know anything 'bout Corvettes really, but I know the Z06's were supposed to have 405 horses or something.

The C6 Vette is just a generation designation. C5s were made from 97-04 (they had center exhaust as well....). If it's a new Vette then it's a C6, which start out at 400hp. But who cares, you beat a Vette by one second, sweet kill. :D

I get it - I feel like an idiot - I didn't realize that was just a generation designation. Wow, 400 hp - I assume that's at the flywheel then. This thing was brand spanking new so it must've been a C6 then. I wonder how much those pigs weigh? I know mine has about 420 HP at the flywheel, but I have 450lb-ft of torque from 2500-5000 RPM :D

On edit - perhaps it was a C5 - the specs I looked up for the C6 shoulda had it running 12's also.

C5s are mid 13 sec cars. They weight about 3200lbs.
C6s are roughly 12.7 cars. They weight under 3200lbs.

C5

C6

Honestly, the only way I can tell them apart is by looking at the headlights. :)

I'm sure it was a sparkly clean C5 now. That C6 looks nice - kinda Viper like - and it would've been a heck of a race if it was a C6.

It was still quite exciting getting a second chance at him and blowing his doors off by like 15 car lengths :D

You guys should see the reaction I get to my big ol' red Cougar at the track. First the ricers and Chevy guys give me this look like "WTF is that?" - some giggle. After a few runs I get this worried look glance over at me in the burnout box - especially by the ricers who, unless their packing a turbo/nitrous & big boost, know they're gonna get thier ass handed to them. 'Course when I open the hood and they see the blower some are like "holy shiznit". It's fun bringing a kinda odd-ball car like ours to the track :D
