Free car repairs for anyone who asks

Isn't it funny how many people hit you up for free car repairs once they find out your hobby is wrenching? I've been asked to do brakes, replace a transmission, and change enough tires to reach Alaska and back.

I just got an email 5 minutes ago about headgaskets and brakes!

I usually get paid something, less it's family, or my buddies ride.

Mine are usually trade-offs. I'll help them with something and they will pay back by helping me with something. Immediate family though. . . free repair work if I can do it.

Strangely, nobody asks me to fix their stuff. Perhaps an advantage to not living that close to anyone else. People do quite often describe a problem to me though and ask me what it is or whatever.

I help out my brothers when they need it too.

My family gets the automatic help with whatever it is that's needed - automotive or otherwise.

I don't get asked much for help with car stuff.. (one local friend generally has more experience than I do, and the other doesn't work on his own stuff anymore) just computer stuff, which is silly since I've been out of repairing PCs for over two years now and I'm forgetting a lot of stuff.

Not only do I get the car stuff, I also get :
"My roof is leaking.  Can you come over and take a look at it?"
"How bout I give you $250 to do the siding on my house?"

The sorry thing is I get this from the other people I work with.
Once I put out the word that they have to have the materials there and it was $30 an hour all the BSers stopped buggin me for side jobs.

In my case, it seems friends are always asking to borrow tools (especially when I worked for the shop and had access to more tools than you can imagine).
