Fuel pump relay issue?

My Tbird started right up this morning and I drove it about 30 miles to work with no issues.  This evening I went to start it and didn't hear the familiar fuel pump hum before I cranked the starter.  I tried a couple more times but still couldn't get fuel to the engine.  I pressed the reset button on the inertia switch but still nothing.  Since I suspect I would have experienced some issues from the fuel pumps before they quit I'm looking at the fuel pump relay as the culprit.  What do you guys think?  Mine is an '84 5.0L CFI car.

Check the computer ground first.

On my 86 the relay is under the trunk hinge passenger side. Check for power there first. If the computer relay turns on, it should trigger the pump relay. If ya got not power there, the computer might not be operating.

You can also ground a connector on the test port to make the pump run non stopped, triggering the relay. There are actually quite a few things to check, but this should narrow it down to the point ya know if its the computer or pump.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Thanks for your reply, Haystack.  Took some time to test but it turns out the problem was the relay.  Fuel pressure looks good so the pumps are ok.  Glad it was a cheap and easy fix.
