Been a while since I swapped O2 sensors on a 3.8.I used the 'normal' O2 socket, but this one worked much better. Lots of Kroil, PB Blaster, or similar penetrants help.

Which side are you trying to swap? Passenger side is worse.

i need to get both out.drivers side i think i can do from the top if i move the a/c comp out of the way as the hose is in the way.passenger side i will have to remove the smog pump pipe and coolant pipe to get at it but not sure if this is going to help as the aircon pipe is going to make it very tight.i have the same o2 socket as well.i need to do this as my co2 emissions are high 3.48%(will fail mot at 3.5%) before all the problems is was 0.15 but i had a cat then before it blew its self to bits also the unburnt fuel (hc) has gone from 116ppm to 376ppm.the book says do them from underneath but cant find any space to do so

I never had much luck getting an O2 sensor out "the correct way" (intact). I usually take a hammer and smash the top off and then just use a shallow socket on a breaker bar.

Its a pain even doing spark plugs on the cfi 3.8's.

High hc can sometimes be tricked with timing. I got my 290k 86 v-8 from 425ppm down to 75ppm by bring timing down to 6 degrees.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.
