short in circuit 38 May 30, 2017, 04:39:14 PM Trying to chase a draw in my bk/o circuit (38) from the starter solenoid, with my test light from battery to positive cable I have a blinking light,(thinking CB or relay) I have removed all fuses not change (this circuit is actually on a circuit breaker) if I am reading my book correctly , this wire feeds the ecm (pcm) to the eec power relay . unplugged processor no change . any ideas ??this car has auto dim wo/keyless entry 1987 20th anniversary Quote Selected
short in circuit 38 Reply #2 – May 30, 2017, 08:37:38 PM page 57,87 EVTM for my hunting down exactly where you "may be".ckt 38 is on teh print **not** powering the eec relay,, that ckt 38 is a hot at all times side tap that travels over to feed pin 1 of the EEC.with thejump over to page 58 and you see the path for the fuel pump relay power by way of the eec power relay.Perhaps your chime module with the door open is causing a blink,, especially if the chime speaker is broke but the ckt is still doing the ding/ding / ding / ding.look at your chime module power and see if that ties bact to get its source from the Blk /Org ckt 38. With the positive battery cable disconnected from the battery and a test light between the battery post and the cable, the test light is blinking.See page 23 of the EVTM1. Unplug the connectors on the alternator.2. If still blinking, disconnect the two BK/O wires at the starter solenoid one at a time. Chase the BK/O wire that has the problem into the harness to the splice with three fuse links.3. Let us know if it is the three black fuse links splice or the one black and two blue fuse links splice. Quote Selected

This will isolate the Auto Lamp feature stuff from circuit 38.2. Still blinking, unplug the main headlight switch connector. Quote Selected

The image is from the 87 EVTM. The "red arrow" wire connects circuit 38 to the Auto Lamp feature circuits. You have Auto Dim but no Auto Lamp. I thought they were a package deal, if you had one you had them both, but apparently not. This would include the alternator.There are some differences between your wiring diagram and the 87 EVTM.Do you have the EVTM? I don't have an 87 Shop Manual.Do you have a link to the instructions for the 3g upgrade?Try disconnecting all the wiring from the alternator.I followed the circuit 38 on fuse link B in the following diagram. I felt this was where you were leading me. The only load on this circuit that does not go through a fuse is the headlight switch. Quote Selected
