AC compressor running as idler March 05, 2017, 12:30:57 PM In the process of stripping the AC pluming and cooler out of the engine bay it's never worked and the gas had escaped many years ago.going to fit an electric fan in its place and get rid of the viscous. can I use the compressor long term as an idler do I need to block the inlet and outlets on it?. AC compressor running as idler Reply #1 – March 05, 2017, 07:19:25 PM I'd probably plug up the ports, BUT unless you plan on maybe using the compressor again sometime in future really isn't necessary... The idler bearing in A/C clutch assembly allows the pulley to spin freely... Quote Selected
