Question????

Hey guys i found a 95 explorer 5.0 motor with over 200k but still runs. did the 95 5.0 explorer motor have the gt40 heads? i know the intake is gt40. hes only asking 100.00 for whole motor.

1995?  I thought the 5.0 was from 1996-2001, with the GT40 heads from 1996-1997.5 (have three bars or "stripes" on the end), and the GT40p heads from 1997.5-2001 (with 4 bars on the end).  There should be a "GT" stamp under the valve cover between the two front rockers on the driver's side for the GT40 heads and a GT40P stamp in the lower middle beneath the valve covers.

Regardless of the head, the stripes are very visible for easy ID.

Its probably a early 97 motor, that or the guy probably forgot what year the explorer really was. The 4 bar heads have better compression but funky angled spark plugs while the 3 bars are lower compression and stock styled spark plugs. There is very little performance difference from either one. At $100, that's about junkyard prices and it looks like all the work is already done for ya.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Well I'd say chances someone swapped a 5.0 in a v6 Sploder were next to slim and none...

Easy to look at casting number/dates to determine when it was really made...

If it turns over freely and isn't too "crudded up", it's well worth the $100 price... decent deal for performance.
