AOD transmission line leaking from pinhole -- 90 Mark VII LSC

Welp, if you read the title, you get the idea.  The leak is on the return line just in front of the K-member right above the line on the power steering rack.  A compression fitting here is out of the question.  There's no room.

Anyone ever replace these lines with the trans and K-member in the car?  I may just give in and drop it off somewhere.... I got a ton of home renovations starting next week and have ZERO time for this.

Only problem is the guy I send big jobs to or stuff I don't have time for is 16 miles away.  I don't know how much I'd leak driving there and don't wanna chance it and I  sure ain't paying for a tow there on a low budget commuter.  If it were the Cougar I'd pay, but not this car.

Lemme know any experience you may have with these devil spuppies lines and recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Turned out to be the hard line on the steering rack didn't it?

Is there room to slit a hose length ways, back a hose clamp all the way off, install it over the hole to patch it up enough to make the trip? Otherwise I got nothing.

They can be removed with engine and trans still in the car. It is a giant pain in the ass though.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

If you can get to spot that leaking Bandaid it...

Clean line, split a piece of hose to slip over pin hole(cut on opposite side), tighten clamp, done... AFAIC permanent fix... In '08 fixed the pressure fuel line on my '93 Grand Marquis, was still OK a year ago(buddy resold it)... Of course I don't have to deal with rusty lines, I junk that stuff, the Merc rubbed through on chassis...

Yes, it did.  The leak finally went from slow drip to deluge giving CLEAR indication of it's source.  The rack line was touching the tranny line in that spot and the way it was leaking it appeared to come from the tranny line.  I massaged the trans line out of the way and about a minute later the steering rack hard line went full bore.  Easy fix.  I already have the replacement.  FWIW, I'd say that about 80% of the fluid in the rack WAS straight up trans fluid.  Dark red, trans fluid smell.  Not the typical power steering fluid smell.  It emptied out in about 30 seconds so at least I won't have too much drippage when I pull the old line.  I'm actually happy that it was this.

I run type F transmission fluid in the power steering on my Thunderbird. I think that's what the factory used in the Fox cars.
