Those heads are better flowing than the E6...

Really! Thank you for continuing to be a pillar of knowledge. That's like the best "useless piece of trivia" I am now gonna piss my buddies off with. And I don't myself believe it to be useless, just using the cliche.
1987 20th Anniversary Cougar, 302 "5.0" GT-40 heads (F3ZE '93 Cobra) and TMoss Ported H.O. intake, H.O. camshaft
2.5" Duals, no cats, Flowmaster 40s, Richmond 3.73s w/ Trac-Lok, maxed out Baumann shift kit, 3000 RPM Dirty Dog non-lock TC
Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...
1988 Black XR7 Trick Flow top end, Tremec 3550
1988 Black XR7 Procharger P600B intercooled, Edelbrock Performer non-RPM heads, GT40 intake AOD, 13 PSI @5000 RPM. 93 octane

Really!!

The cravat is they probably have larger combustion chambers than E6 or E7 heads, '80s 5.0 engines up through '85 only have a 8.4 compression ratio... Still the 4bbl carbed '85 HO made 210Hp...

In the coolcats h.o. upgrade it lists e5 (or whatever the codes are) heads from 80-85 as suitable if you can't find e7's.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

"If you cannot find E7s, it's perfectly okay to use a slightly older Ford 5.0 head (E3, E4, etc.) but avoid reusing the E6s unless you cannot afford E7s or cannot find them."

True. One advantage to the 85 engine is that the pistons have valve reliefs (unlike the E6 headed 86-87 engines). That's helpful in that one could easily run something like an AFR165/Edelbrock Performer head. Although the 86-87 SO engine should accommodate TW170 heads without issue......
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.
