Power steering hose

My hose is leaking on my power steering unit where it plugs into the unit.  This is the big hose that has a metal end on the other end connecting to whatever it connects to.  My question is can I cut it off and stick it back on at the top of the ps unit?  It has a screw clamp holding the hose on.  This is on my 1986 Mercury Cougar.

Is it the small tube at the bottom? If so, yes, you can cut the end off and clamp it back on. If it's the larger tube on the side, the pressure line, you need to go grab a new one at Autozone (or wherever), and replace it. It connects down at the steering rack then up at the side of the steering pump.
