Any turbo 351w birds? Reply #1 – January 05, 2015, 10:06:14 AM Several turbo 351's have done builds here. The m5od i don't believe fits very well. I was running a 3.8 t-5 out of a 2003 mustang without any issues. I went through 3 sets of motor mounts and broke a few bolts off the motor mount. I later found i had three different length motor mount bolts, so im guessing they were bottoming out and allowing movement. The 351 fits in an engine bay fine, but hood clearance will be an issue. Any turbo 351w birds? Reply #2 – January 05, 2015, 10:48:34 AM Getting a 351W to fit in any Fox body with the stock hood is a challenge but can be done. Low rise intake, lowered air cleaner, and possibly cutting a brace in the hood are all known ways to get the 351 height down. If you are going injected which is my guess with the turbo talk then you will most likely need a cowl hood. From what I can tell there are only one or two choices out there and the quality is not all that good. I have a 351W with a Victor Jr intake with a 4150 Holley and 1" drop air cleaner and it barely fits under the 3" cowl. I am also running a Griggs K-Member (not sure if that is it what caused it) and using factory style rubber Fox Mustang engine mounts caused the oil pan to hit the steering rack. I opted to use Energy Suspension urethane mounts which lifted the engine about 1/2" which got the clearance I needed. I probably could have used some offset bushings to lower the steering rack and I may still try them so I can utilize the factory engine mounts as they are less bulky than the Energy Suspension units. With regards to the tranny you want to use I would check the Mustang boards and see if anyone has tried to use one in a Fox Mustang. These cars are pretty much identical with regards to the trans tunnels so if it won't fit a Fox Mustang chances are it will not fit one of these cars.Darren Quote Selected
Any turbo 351w birds? Reply #3 – January 05, 2015, 12:44:29 PM the shifter is located 30inches behind the motor that puts it about 5inces behind the stock location, I already have the trans mounted to the motor so I'm just going to do it (Bidget), I already have chuck W mounds i have swap headers if it will fit and i don't really care about the hood, ill spot weld a steel cowl and add a scoop if I need to (this is mostly a drag car) Quote Selected
Any turbo 351w birds? Reply #4 – January 05, 2015, 03:11:02 PM They make some pretty radical fiberglass hoods for these cars. Im digging what your throwing out. Start a new thread in user rides and update us as you go along. Quote Selected
Any turbo 351w birds? Reply #5 – January 05, 2015, 05:18:11 PM I'm a retard, I blew right past M5R2 which is a Mazda 5 speed tranny so no worries. I was thinking one of the new auto's which would only trigger girth with me. We are having to cut up the trans tunnel on our '69 fastback to get the T56 installed but before that I never worried about that issue.Darren Quote Selected
Any turbo 351w birds? Reply #6 – January 05, 2015, 07:30:30 PM I was certain the M5 Mazda trans had a different shifter location, as compared to a Fox T5?I'm not personally certain, as the only Mazda 5 speeds I've seen were all in 1/2 ton, 5.0 trucks... Quote Selected
