Need help fast please help!!!!!! July 03, 2014, 02:42:50 AM Hey everyone. I was driving my TC tonight. Driving it around town I noticed it bogging down, like it was loosing power, but it was hesitating also. Well I knew it need gas. Well after pulling into the gas station friend of mine turned to me and asked if I smelled that. first thing it smelled like was burning antifreeze, then first thing that came to mind was that I either blew a hose or worse blew a head gasket. Well after filling it up, after starting it, smoke started rolling out from under the hood, well I looked, and the smoke is just rolling out of the inter cooler. Well I thought it would be the turbo quit working, my friend said that I might have blown the turbo. I dont know what this could be, if its the turbo then I pull the turbo out of my other car. If anyone knows of anything else it could be, It would be greatly accepted. Thanks for your knowledge from whomever helps out. Quote Selected

Need help fast please help!!!!!! Reply #3 – July 03, 2014, 01:22:43 PM Same thing happened to my first V6 88 Bird except the white smoke was coming from the exhaust was a Blown Head gasket. Got the heads shaved under the table cost me 600$ Canadian but this was back in the early 90's. Worst feeling ever having a white smokescreen people can see for miles down the road. Lets see why dont we ask some 2.3 Turbo owners how many head gaskets they have blown. But it could be the heater hose extensions and they can rot out and leak also. Or the little hose that feeds the turbo might have blown. Or the little hose below the passenger side of the block that feeds the turbo. Of which i modify them for full hard lines to eliminate that issue. pressure test the system and see where it is coming from. Just for the record it is very rare to blow a head gasket and leak coolant in that area but i have seen it a lot of times. Check the 5/16 adapter hose by the turbo in the middle of the valve cover area. They rot out and break all the time. Hard line it if it blew. But what the heck tomorrow is a Holiday have a good long weekend guys. Quote Selected

I did blow a gasket, But it was the valve cover gasket. Although tom maybe you can give me a answer on why my turbo keeps cutting in and out. Almost like its hesitating. I know I need to do a tune up on it but I know that wont make the turbo stop acting up Quote Selected
Need help fast please help!!!!!! Reply #7 – July 03, 2014, 10:47:22 PM That means one thing . Your PCV valve is defective and allowing boost to enter the crankcase. You need a check valve. If it is an IHI it most likely is shot. But that turbo is quite reliable by design. If what you are saying is the boost varies that is a good indication the turbo is tired. I did not post the valve cover because you clearly posted antifreeze smell. Not oil smell. It is very hard to shoot a trouble through a keyboard without seeing the issue in person. have a good weekend guys. Quote Selected

I have another turbo I can grab to replace it for the time being, if thats what your saying that my turbo wore out. I'll have to look into getting a check valve then. They pretty easy to install?
