Ford Explorer 5.0 piston.... Reply #4 – March 10, 2014, 09:56:36 PM LOL. No.....I was going to use one to get the valve relief as I need it to fit the heads I'm getting from you. The AFR guy said my valve reliefs would need to be wider to accept the 2.02 valves. I am not swapping pistons. I can use an Isky tool easily. Quote Selected
Ford Explorer 5.0 piston.... Reply #5 – March 13, 2014, 02:18:00 AM last piston set i got would accept them just fine,, you using stock pistons like oem explorer or 5.0? i thought you kept your flat tops back when it kissed a valve.. may be mistaken.are you cutting while in the block?if yes,, run a beed of shaving cream around the cirspoogeferance of the piston to catch the metal flakes,, Quote Selected
Ford Explorer 5.0 piston.... Reply #6 – March 13, 2014, 07:54:04 AM My flat tops were in my '86 engine. It has a '99 Mountaineer engine now. Yes, I'd cut them while the pistons are in. I've seen it done many times with an Isky tool.....or a 2.20 valve chucked in a drill with sanding discs stuck on the end. The guy at AFR said the valve reliefs will need to be wider, not necessarily deeper in order to accept the heads on my engine. The shaving cream tip sounds like a good idea. I had a plan on taping a sheet of plastic with a pre-cut hole over the block so nothing but that raised piston is showing. May do them both. Quote Selected
