End of a 24 yr run

Like the title says "The end of an accident free 24 year run" happened @ mid-night Monday night. While driving my normal route in a spare truck as my regular truck was in for repairs/regular maint, I had just passed thru a little on hwy 20 in Ohio, the back of my truck, not the trailer, seemed to have been pushed to the left causing me to move to the right. Nothing a little room wouldn't straighten out, the problem, that particular stretch didn't have much of a shoulder and the snow was a little too close to the pavement.
The following pics show the end results.

right beside the Deputy Sheriff in the shadow is the bottom half of the power pole I sheard off. Couldn't see it cause of all the snow that had flown up on my windshield.
The other half of it just in front of the corner of the trailer in the shadows.

As everyone has said, at least no one was injured and it could have been a lot worse. Just my OCD showing up in respect to my record. With close to 2.4 million accident free miles, it's tough to swallow.
The good thing I guess is also that the truck didn't roll and I didn't block the whole road, just the east bound side. But I was there for almost 3.5 hrs just waiting for a stupid tow truck. When I hit the pole, it took 1/3 of the hood w/fender and blew the front tire. Fortunately the wires stayed up and just pulled the isolators from the pole.

The sad part is the road was clear, just salt dust. I had reset my cruise to 58 when this happened. The safety guy said I hit that pole going 58 according to the on-board computer. My knees are a little sore from hitting the dash when I came back up onto the road.

Bruises will heal, glad to see you are one solid piece still. ;)

My dad probably had 2.5-3 million miles....accident free, till some dumb c**t rolled backward into him at a stop light in Indy about 10 years ago or so..he took off, thinking she was gone (she was jackassing with her phone or some equally dumbassed thing) and pushed her through a light, stopping when people were honking, waving, and whatnot.

It flat spotted her tires, busted a tail light and bumper cover....but when the cops arrived, they asked her if she had any pain..she dropped on the ground and started saying she couldn't feel her feet. Un-f*ckin'-believable.

He got a ticket for careless operation or something like that, went to court with a lawyer, and won it.

The only other thing that happened to him washiznitting a deer in Tennessee one night...took off the whole bumper, grille, and driver fender, and there were deer guts and blood caked into his steps.

80,000 pounds vs. 100-110 pounds of mammal....well, you know who's gonna win that competition, lol.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are in one piece. This winter has been a real pain in many ways.

close to 2.4 million accident free miles

I've been driving for a little over 20 years.  I MIGHT have 500,000 miles under my belt.  MIGHT.  I've been rear-ended 4 times.... I had another one with similar cirspoogestances to yours except my "pole" was 3 cars in a used car parking lot.  On Christmas Day.  That was fun.....NOT.

Paul, you have me beat by one car in the rear ended contest.  2 of my 3 were in my SHO Taurus, less than a month apart.  I was dead stopped at red lights all 3 times.

Glad you are OK and like folks say, it could have been worse.

No one can take away that amazing record of 24yrs and 2.4 millions miles.  Still an incredible achievement not many of us will ever even come to reaching.

Glad you are on to the next 2.4 million miles!

Good luck and stat safe.  You have got to be one of the safest truck drivers on the road today.

Many around here are lucky to hit 24 hrs or 24 miles!

Too bad they made that decision for you, but after the winter we have been having Texas sounds pretty good.

I wanted to say thanks to everyone that has responded with their support and well wishes. I'm going to take a few more days off then get back into the saddle of driving. Although it'll more than likely be in a end or belly dump for a union shop. As it's been said (by who I don't have a clue) When 1 door closes, another door opens" The Texas move might be delayed a while

You should've seen the front of the truck :punchballs:

After I was able to charge my phone, thanks to the Deputy sheriff, I forgot all about getting frontal pics with my phone.
