Front air dam mach 1 chin spoiler? 88 tc

Im missing my front air dam as it was ripped off at some point by the previous owner. I can vaguely remember hearing that you can make a mach 1 chin spoiler work but is that the same thing as the air dam needed for proper cooling? Or is the chin spoiler a separate piece?

It goes in place of the front air dam and serves the same purpose.  Fairly straightforward on a TC as opposed to other forms of Cougarbirds which require a bit more work to get it to fit properly.

I have one on my Bird. You will need to pull the front wheels, drill some holes, and bolt it on. I used all of the spoiler's mounting holes as a template and drilled matching holes into the lower bumper cover, and used bolts, nuts and washers to attach it. I didn't trust screws. Once it's installed, I trimmed the ends off to match the fenders (the spoiler has a few inches too much on the ends for our cars.

Has anyone heard of running a ranger front air dam instead? They are about $13 compared to $60 not that its a huge difference.

Sorry, not from underneath. I does fit as though it was meant for this car, just too long on the ends. Easy to fix that with my Dremmel. With the front raised, and wheels off, it took me about 20 minutes to install it. As I stated before, the spoiler came with push pins to hold it in place, but due to the 2 inch drop on my car, and just for me to feel good about it, I used new fasteners I picked up at Lowes. Bolts, washers, nuts. I used washers on both sides to spread the load of the bolt and cover more area. Theya re behind the lip of the spoiler and never seen. I simple drilled holes through the bumper cover wherever the holes on the spoiler were, installed fasteners, good to go. Once it was all together, I simple cut the ends off with a Dremmel and cutoff wheel, installed the tires, done.

You gotta slam that thing Vinnie!!! lol

Dumb question you know how on the tbirds it has the "fingers" on the lower part of the bumper. Are you leaving those open or blocking them with the lip?

Nothing is blocked. This spoiler fits in the same location as the stock chin spoiler, it just takes up the whole length of the bumper cover.

As far as slamming it, it's sitting two inches or so lower now. This pic was taken the day I brought the Sport home from paint. It's now mostly assembled. I still have some work to do, but getting a little closer every week......

That sits pretty dam good Vinnie..I was looking at my mangled front bumper and was attempting to think about how to mount it. Im most likely going to have to run a piece of aluminum longways under the bumper use that as a mounting point somehow. Either that or try to source a minty front bumper for a 87-88 TC which is slim to none.
