Will a T5 swap throw any check engine lights?

I plan on mating a t5 trans to my 5.0 HO motor from a 93 cougar HO. Will it throw any check engine lights?

Was there ever a factory produced 91-93 cougar 5.0 HO manual/5 speed?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I'm installing a 93 mercury cougar 5.0 HO automatic with will factory wiring and computer Into an 89 325i BMW. I'm going to leave it as an automatic in the beginning. I will then swap in my t5 after I get it smogged here in ca.

If the cougar was ever made with a 5.0 HO  5 speed in 93. It would pass smog with a 5-speed.

I was hoping to drop it in as a 5 speed from the start but looks like I won't anymore. Thanks for uour help guys

Not sure if this is relivent or not.  The MN12 89-97 cougar only had a 5speed in 89-90 and it the mazda M5R2...which is a really big/long truck tranny which is stronger and fits the bigger MN12 body style.  So the T5 never was an option...

thanks for the responses. I am just trying to be 100% smog legal for the California
BAR certification so my motor swap is street legal.

I think I have it figured out.

I am going to plug in a sn95 94-95 eec from a 5 speed mustang and smog my motorswap as a 94-95 mustang.

Does anyone disagree with this working? Researching the engines, it seems the cougar HO is the same as the 94-95 mustang motors.

Ding ding. It's a length issue, mostly. But I think the SC's used a linkage, as the truck version of that Mazda trans had the gearshift directly down into the main case. Not like a T5 where the shifter is at the rear (well, a Ford T5 as WE know it).

OP, if you're going to put it together and build or have built mounts, I'd set it up with the manual trans you'll eventually have in it. Of you need an auto to get it licensed/smogged, just make sure it's cable shifted andcreate a small shifter for it that's good enough for temporary use..?

If it's that nice of a build, maybe even a T56..?

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I'm sure there are minor differences. not sure if you have to have exact matching part numbers or not. the 94-95 stang t-5 is also 3/4" or so longer output shaft and has a different bellhousing. I also believe the wiring would be slightly.different between the two.

let us know, and good luck.

pinouts appear to be slightly different. also, the 94-95 mustangs were electric fan, and I believe the 91-93 5.0 cougar birds were mechanical. I might be wrong there.

I would think that running an A9L (manual trans only) or A9P (auto or manual trans) would be the ticket as these are for the older Fox Body Mustangs which would mean less strict emissions requirements versus a 94/95 car.  I think you are over thinking this with regards to what car the motor is out of.  The only think the A9L or A9P cars about is an HO pattern cam and a mass air meter that is correctly calibrated for it and the size of injector you are going to use.  From there its just sensors that are almost identical.  I only say this as there have been several guys with the 94/95 cars swap over to an A9L so its easier to tune their cars.  Do a search over on the Corral for this and it may help you with your project especially as there are bound to be a few guys on there that have used the 91-93 T-Bird and Cougar 5.0 engines for projects.  I know there is one guy that has a 5.0 in a Volvo and he is a wealth of info trouble shooting stuff.
