Found a Sage Green 85 Thunderbird

On my way to the grocery store today I found a Sage Green 85 Thunderbird with a tan interior. I know these are rare and this is the first time I've seen one in person. It looks pretty beat up and rusty. It's probably not long till it ends up in the s yard.

I think I've seen one Fox since I got mine, it was a black '84 Cougar. these things are getting rarer and rarer, and it's sad :(

That looks just like my first T-Bird when I bought it, except mine had the metal hubcaps, no right side mirror, and a grey interior. I later added chrome rims (cheap 14-inch Cragars) and a junkyard mirror. I liked the light sage green then and I still like it. That colour really pops when the car is in good shape and has chrome wheels on it. I wish I had pictures of mine, but alas, that was back before digital cameras, when photos cost money.

Here, believe it or not, is the only photo I have of that car, taken with an el-cheapo 35mm with obviously not enough flash or exposure:

Mine pretty much had the same rust as that one, too. I did the bodywork (it was all below the rubber belt line) and painted the bottom half of the car a charcoal grey metallic with spray bombs (the spray bombs were advertised as "SUV paint"). The colour combo looked really, really good. This photo was taken before I did the bodywork - you can see a bit of rust in the front fender just ahead of the wheel.

If I can ever find a four-eye Bird I will paint it light sage green metallic with a charcoal grey lower half...

It did look like a nice color, at least where the clear coat was still intact. I know that Sage Green is a very rare color. This Thunderbird wasn't heavily optioned from what I could see. From the ones that have come up on here most of the Sage Green cars tended to be low optioned. I have no idea why. With the tan interior it looked pretty nice.

If the thing was in better shape I would have considered trying to buy it. I didn't look under it but I can guess based on the body that it has rot issues.

This one made it to Cat Jam in 2007.  I can't believe it has been over six years already.

The interior of the Thunderbird I found was the same color. It had cloth and no power driver seat. Looked pretty sharp.

No it wasn't. If it was in nice shape I probably would have left a note about the car. I really have no interest in a rust bucket.

It became her car two years after that Cat Jam. I saved it from going to the salvage yard in 2005 or 2006 I think, drove it for three years or something like that, took it to Cat Jam in 2007 and passed it on to Karen in spring of 2009.  I found out about that car from a thread on this site.  Click on my pawprint to see the car on my Cardomain.  Cardomain sucks now but it's the only place I have any pictures of it.  The photos in my previous post above were taken during my ownership.
