3 1/2" I'm not sure about 83-84, but I know 87-88 won't work, the plugs are different.

It's been my experience that you'll be better off without 'em. I've found that speakers that small just emphasize the midrange, and put it front and center, in your face. The only way I'd ever put anything up there again would be tweeters, as part of a component set

I agree with you, my original plan was to leave the dash spots empty and find some nice 6 1/2's for the doors. A PO did upgrade the rear 6x9's, so it's got some decent sound from the rears. Car came with a pioneer deh-p3500, which I could barely hear. For the hell of it, I got a base am/fm radio from a 86 Crown Vic, and I barely have to turn the volume up to hear it now.

I got some Polk audio 3.5s from crutchfield for about 30 bucks and they sound awesome
I did away with stock connections and just added my own which was simple enough
They also come with some capacitor looking things to remove the low end sounds/bass but I left them off

I found some on eBay and they arrived today. You were right on, with the fade @ 50/50, the fronts almost completely drown out the rears, I turned the fade to about 40F/60R, all 4 even now.

Scored an electronic radio w/ cassette from an 83 Mark 6 at a u-pull-it yard today. It turns out that the reason why the fronts drown out the rears is because the mechanical radios don't have a built-in amp, and the electronic radios do, but it just amplifies the rear channels.
