Universal joints

Someone just showed me how to tell if the universal joint is bad just by looking at it

And it worked!

So the guy said look around that rubber little boot on the inside of the U joint and if you see any bright shiny metal that tells you that the universal joint is theoretically locked up and the needle bearings are not really doing their job anymore so the whole system is sort of seized up

Again this is only on the interior of the universal joint where the rubber sleeve is where it meets the shaft of the joint if there's any shiny metal showing that's a visual indication

Sure enough while I was up in the Canton oh area this weekend at his house the universal joint was really really locked up on my 20th and I could not believe that most of the needle bearings had rusted apart or the caps were plum full of rust
