Fuel Sending Unit help!!

Hello!

I'm actually helping a buddy of mine out so this will probably be my only post on this forum. However I will get him involved here, seems like a decent place for information.

Anyways, I've come across an issue with my fuel sending unit. It is almost completely rusted and unable to be used any longer. I'd rather not go the route of aftermarket pieces, esp. for fuel components. I've cross referenced the engineering number over to the actual ford part number. However, I looked it up at the dealer and this particular piece is no longer available.

I was taking a wild guess and asked them to look for older years and see if they had any that might have been available. A dealership in Kansaas has 3 fuel sending units for an 85'

Long story short, will an 85 fuel sending unit fit/work in a 88' Turbo Coupe.

I don't know the answer but here is a recent thread with some pump sending units in it.  Which one is your type?  At the very bottom is an 84 Turbo Coupe sending unit that I posted pics of.  It doesn't have the cover on the outside and has an aftermarket pump in it but that is it.

If you are worried about the quality of the pump (and your OEM pump still works), just buy the aftermarket sending unit and switch the pumps (put the OEM pump in the generic hanger). It's usually only that top plate and connectors that rust, who cares if that part is generic. Don't forget to get the lock ring too; the new sender will not come with it.

I don't know if an 85 sending unit would fit an 88, I doubt it though.

In the EVTMs the 85 and 88 fuel gauge senders have the same resistance values.
60 to 86 ohms empty,  8 to 12 ohms full, for the buttstuffog gauge.

I've got a good one with a little surface rust and a working fuel pump that I'll sell you for $40 and I am in Manassas. If you want it shipped I'll ship it for another $10. This one came from an 88.
