I could buy my Thunderbirds (almost) twin

I drove by this on the way to work this morning. I stopped and turned around for a closer look. 88 Thunderbird LX, 5.0 car. It's a virtual twin of my 88 Thunderbird LX. Mine has every option but a sunroof. This one has every option but a sunroof, the graphic EQ, and leather (the later two my car has).

The interior looks clean. The body, on the other hand, has issues. It looks like it needs at least both front fenders, doors, and a driver's side quarter. The strut towers appear ok (at least from looking in the wheel well) but the underside appears to be a bit crusty.

Here's the kicker: they guy wants $2000 for it. Now way, even if it has low miles (I have no idea how many it has) is it worth $2K. Maybe $800, and I could strip the bejesus out of it for spare parts. I'd like to call the guy and make an offer but we'll see if I can get a really good look at it. I'm thinking the most I offer is $800, tops, perhaps even less. Thoughts?

Oh and this is parked in the same lot as that Thunderbird. Kind of a Fox day eh?

I should buy it but I'd have to get it cheap, much cheaper than he's selling it for. I mean $2000 no way. I paid $800 for my 91 Mark VII (pictured below) which just had some rust on the lower front fenders from the sunroof drains and a clean underbody. I wouldn't pay more for this car than I did for my Mark VII. I'm pretty sure that he won't take realistic money for the car, as it's already priced too high.

I would try at 1,000 but to me if it runs drives and stops and has good rubber it's worth 1500

I'd like to buy it but the right side of my brain thinks it's a money pit, and it probably is. That rust is going to cost stupid $$$ to fix right. I'm not a welder/body man so I would have to farm it out. If I could get it cheap I can get spare parts for my entire interior (except seats) as well as exterior bits (header, grill, bumpers, lights, trim) and wiring/fuel lines.

I haven't contacted the seller but I'm not going to buy it. I've thought about it and decided that I really don't have the time/space/disposable income for another Fox project. I had the Thunderbird out Sunday for a show and decided to stop by the Thunderbird for sale and snap a couple of pictures just for fun.

Cool pics. It would be nice if you could get it at a fair price though.

Less than $1K would be fair, as it needs about $2-3K in body work and paint. Like I said I got my fairly clean 91 Mark VII for $800. This Thunderbird should go for less.
