What do you do with CFI?

I just snapped up a pristine '84 Elan with a 302 and 80,00 original miles, but I REALLY dislike its wussiness and drivablility issues with its limited ecm capabilites of the CFI. Is it easier to convert to carb or can I do a little harness modification and put a truck-like batch-fire ECM with 19lb injectors and a truck ECM in this thing?

I just finished improving my '89 F250 4x4 with a car-style aftermarket efi intake, ported GT40s, a speed density friendly crane compu-cam, cobra 1.7s and 24lb injectors-now running on an '88 460 ecm...do I approach this system similarly, or do i s the EFI and go Performer RPM intake and a Holley 600 and this .496 lift dual pattern cam I have stowed away in the garage?

I kinda like the EFI because I like the potentiality of drivability it affords. I have an explorer intake, a speed density friendly 351W HO truck cam and some GT40ps with the right headers and 1.7 roller rockers.

I guess am just wondering if the ecm swap is plug and play with some splices for 6 more injectors and the addition of a barro sensor? Let me know.

I think you may need the wiring out of an 86 and up 5.0 car to convert to SEFI.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Thanks for the link, softtouch, I had read the thread previously and was unsure how some of jcassity's reccomendations would be applied as he seemed confused about which engine was in which car. Your info was helpful about the differences in sensors and pin locations. I do not have a pin out handy for the t-bird, but have about anything I want for the truck stuff.

I have, somewhere, a robbed harness from a 93 Cougar xr7 with a 5.0 HO and the ecm and most of the sensors and dist. I'll have to brood on this somemore. The carbbed answer seems the easy way due to the lack of readily available harnesses for the sefi cars...maybe if I shop I'll find an A9L and harness though.

To Craigslist....AWAY!!!!!!!
