351w carb motor, electric fuel pump?

I am going to use the low pressure pump in the factory tank of the car, and not use the frame rail pump, do I need a return for using the low pressure pump only, and can I use a fuel pressure regulator without a return?

I think there have been a few guys here that have done it.  Why not just remove the pump and weld up a pick up tube and put and AN fitting on it?  This way you can run a Holley Blue pump and know that you are getting the correct pressure and that it will work for a couple of years down the road.

The return line is already there, I'd use it.

Why not leave both pumps in there and just change the regulator?

There are no fuel lines on car yet, the parts had old lines, and Frame rail pump was junk, so the pump in tank is ok, so Iam going carb, so was thinking of just using it and a regulator.

I think I am just going to use a adjust regulator and return line, and put a gauge inline under hood

I keep coming back to the in-tank pump being able to provide enough fuel for the 351W and if the age is unknown who knows what kind of pressure it is actually putting out or more over what volume it can deliver.  I would just pull the tank and build a pickup tube and put a Holley blue pump on it so I would be sure that the fuel system is up to the job and reliable.  Yet the other half of me is truly wondering if this will work or not so onward man, onward!
