Vista restored on my HP Pavilion March 03, 2013, 12:54:12 PM Hello...In recent weeks I was downloading music and suddenly found upon starting my HP (Vista) ---that it was "restored." I was sorta shocked because I have AVG virus protection and Windows firewall. Anyway I ran sfc/scannow and that seemed to help the matter as well at that time. This week, Windows Restore; Windows Update and sfc/scannow went dead on me. I knew I was in trouble. I ran Microsoft Safety Scanner from download and it reported to have removed "Trojan Java/Toniper" from my PC. Now I have to somehow repair the above mentioned programs, which I seemingly cannot do. Any ideas on this??? I do not have a program disk as Vista was preinstalled. All other methods seem elusive at this point. JR Quote Selected
Vista restored on my HP Pavilion Reply #1 – March 08, 2013, 10:52:21 AM There should be a partition on your hard drive with the backup. You may need a hp restore disc,maybe able to download it. If you go this route you will be starting over like when it was new. Quote Selected
Vista restored on my HP Pavilion Reply #2 – March 08, 2013, 11:06:13 AM Many modern virus/trojan/malware infections infect your restore partitions too. I hate how cheap manufacturers have become- they can include a $0.01 restore CD. They just put it on the hard drive where it can be infected, or better yet, lost when your drive has a hardware failure. Quote Selected

The shop warned me to keep updates current, especially on "Plug-ins"--a new subject for me.
