ac clutch switch

so why does it make sense that when the heat is on, the A/C clutch switch cycles on and off?
just curious if im the only one who unplugs the A/C clutch in the winter time?

its a power hog anyway.

Simple JAY the AC operates to remove the moisture in the car in the winter. This in turn defrosts the windows in a second as the moisture is pulled out of the car. The engineers always run the AC in defrost to clear the windows. No moisture no frosty windows!!!

that makes sense, i didnt have the hvac compressor working all winter and the glass cleared up pretty quick, prob would have cleared quicker if i had the compresor connected.
either way its only a temporary benefit to clear the glass.  sure would be nice if it cut off on its own like lets say 5min after eng temp has been reached.

it make no sense to have it on duty 100% of the time when heat is selected.  sounds like a good timer relay mod to me.

I plan on removing mine, along with the power steering. just trying to figure out how to run everything else after its gone.

Jay all you have to do is not run the defroster and the compressor does not engage. It only works in DEFROST MODE. The engineers went to great lengths to run the compressor to DE HUMIDIFY THE CAR in damp weather. Best go with that design and call it a day!!

I don't like or use ac. it only gets over 100 a couple days of the year most of the time and we have no humidity. just personal preference.

my power steering leak wasn't my hoses like I thought. the rack is cracked. this is the 3rd car in a row with a cracked rack. I can get a custom manual rack that uses the stock rag joint and ballots for less then 1/3 what a rebuilt/refurbished rack costs. if my 86 year old grandma can drive her 82 Mazda without power steering , I think ill live.

But not telling you what to do but that means you are limited to a rack that ia not FAST!!! Just a POINT. I would like to see a photo of a cracked RACK as in the many years in the car business i have never seen one other than in a COLLISION . Also the steering sector is not designed for a MANUAL RACK. Some police Departments are having steering shafts break from excessive load. Manual racks put excessive loads on the steering shafts and a reman is like a hundred bucks. But to each his own!!

Never saw an 82 MAZDA with manual steering . But comparing it to a 2 1/2 tun car with big wheels and tires.  The wheel  barrel tires on the 1800 LB MAZDA  is completely different than a full size car. (apples to oranges) I was just curious that's all

it is a b2000. more like 2 tons, but still pretty skinny tires. it was a steering box though, not a rack and opinion.

I've driven a couple of these cars without power steering working, a manual rack should be easier. I had pictures of my last cracked rack. let me see if I still have it.

B 2000 still a light vehicle no where near 2 tons i would think!!!

The official weight of that vehicle is 2565 base model with manual steering

I would have guessed well over 3k. it was a tough fun little truck. learned to drive in it. you could chirping 4th gear on it. just stay away from any hill going over 40mph.

oh,, ok, well there lies the problem.

I always run defrost in the winter for heat
on long road trips across many states for work, i cant stay awake with heat blowing in my face, if i select floor then the windshield eventually will start to sheen over ,
