How do I remove this window trim?

This thing is driving me crazy. I tried to remove this piece of trim from a car at the junk yard and ruined it. I've tried with my car and can't figure it out. Theres gotta be a trick to it, but danged if I can find it. Please help...

The piece I'm trying to get is along the rear side of the door and borders the edge of the window. In this picture, it is the piece that has the black paint chipped/worn away and looks horrible.

If I remeber right you need to pry up on the side closest to the door window first the once it is up you have to push the piece towards the rear. here is a pic of what the trim peice holder looks like.

I've been trying to figure out how to do that myself without ruining it. My left on has 2 small chips in it that I touch up every now and again and they are BOTH faded. I've wondered as well how vinyl decal material would look on it.
You could order one strip of the stuff, cut it to the size you need and put it on.

In person these particular ones are more of a satin finish so it would appear stock. The only problem would be how to get the stuff around the lip on the forward part of the trim. You'd probably have to do it in 2 pieces.

Thanks to all...I want to paint it, but really wanted to remove it instead of taping it off. Just seems it would be easier to get it right if it were off, maybe not worth the trouble.

After looking at how bad your trim looked I went out to check mine out. Well it looks like the same thing. So I painted it! I hurried through it cause I thought it would rain and it still turned out good.

I coated mine that are off the car in the Dupli color truckbed coating. It sticks good and last for a long time. I may get the dull gray look again but then I hit it with some tire wet and It's as black as can be.

i dunno if its the same as my 84 but i just pushed the trim on the door towards the back
and it slide off the post n pushed it the other way to get it off the clip pins once u get one side of it off u can look and see hope this helps

I tried pushing it back toward the rear of the door (on the junk yard car) and it bent the out of it. It wouldn't budge. I hadn't tried my own car yet from fear of doing the same thing. I think I will try painting it along with the rest of the trim.

I was planning on painting mine on the car. I have two junk doors that I've tried every thick in the book on - the only thing I seem to be able to do consistantly is damage them :(. Guess I'll be taping them up soon...

I took the trim from around the outside of the window off of my parts car, adn this piece actually has a lip that raps around under the weatherstrip and has 3 or 4 pop rivets in it. No wonder prying only damages it. I'm definately taping and painting instead. At least I'll have an excuse to paint the rest of the trim while I'm at it to make it match.
