Fox wheel fitment

I have had difficulty trying to figure out correct backspacing for my Bird. Found this info today.

Here is a basic guideline for backspacing for fox-body wheels:

7" width - 4.5" backspace

8" width - 5-5.5" backspace

9" width - 6" backspace

10-10.5" width - 6.5" backspace

Kind of what I was going for. Don't want anyone to go through what I had to. Ask about wheel fitment on this forum and the only answer you get is " Anything that will fit a Fox Mustang ". So on to the Mustang forums. At the Mustang forums you will find the wheel sizes that will fit, but little or no mention of backspacing. If you see one that will work with the backspacing listed, you go to shop for one, only to find the wheels listed by offset rather than backspacing. All of this was just to find 5 lug 15x7's. Sad thing is, everybody wants the biggest wheel they can stuff under there. I don't like the look, or ride gained from tall wheels and short tires. Found the wheels I want. Now on to tires. I would like to go with 235 60's. I might just go with 225 60's just to be on the safe side.

225 60's are hard to find in a 15" rim now for a reasonable price.

We can actually fit quite a bit more tire without rubbing, especially in the rear of the 87-88's. I believe we even have more room between the inner frame and tires as well.

The 235 size is much more common, although in narrower tire sizes. If your going new, I would highly recommend going with 16" wheels if your going 5 lug. Right now, you can actually get 15" tires for cheaper then a compareable 14", and I fear the same is happening with 15"s now unless your running skinnies. Which really sucks, I like sidewalls big enough I can hit a curb without taking out the rim. It come in handy with winter snow driving here, espesially when avoiding collisions. I have ran lights and driven over sidewalk/curbs to avoid accidents before, from someone coming behind me too fast to stop.

I found 225 60 15's for a good price. However there is not a hole lot of selection. If 15s' become a problem, I can always switch to 16's in the future. The wheels I have picked are cheap. They are steel, but rusting wheels are not an issue here.
