It should fit. I want one for the Sport as well, but they aren't cheap, so, when funds allow, I'll have one. Under the hood, the Bird and Stang are mostly alike. It's in the middle of the car on back that the stretch happens.

also i modified the seats to sit on the power seats frame so thats pretty cool.

Any of them will work.  I had the Flaming River unit on my '83 and switched over to the Maximum Motorsports hybrid shaft so I could install a SN95 rack.

I wasn't happy with the flaming river piece.. the one I got from summit I had to drill dimples and set the shaft length..I forget the details it was a couple of years ago.  It works, I just didn't like the extra work.

Me either but at the time ('99ish) that was all I knew about so I thought they were pretty good and compared to the stock rag joint unit they were an improvement.  There are several brands out there now that are much better than the Flaming River unit.  The shiznitty thing about the set screws is that you have to grind them down flush with the jam nut or they will hit on header tubes.  Not well thought out at all.  I pulled both of mine off and have the MM shafts on both cars and I sold both of the Flaming River units for $100 for the lot.  I thought I knocked a home run there.  Anyhow, good luck with the search.

Rusting? Just clear coat that thing.

Not really.  Some guys paint theirs and other have clear coated it a Vinnie suggested but with it being next to the headers most painted ones look pretty bad in no time.  You could use some high heat paint but you have to bake the parts in a oven to achieve the maximum temperature rating and that would most likely cook the grease out of the MM unit.  There are some things that Ford does not paint so I just left mine alone.
