Widest up front is 9".  Rim width is only one factor.  Tire section width, wheel offset/back space, ride height and type of spindle all play into the equation.

I had issues with a  4 lug 16 X 7 1/2 rim with a 225 section width rubbing due to too much back space on a lowered car with stock style suspension (a 1/4" spacer was needed to move the tire outside).

As a comparison:  I now have a 17 X 9 rim, a 255 section width, with a 94/95 spindle (5 lug) and coil overs.  It is a little wide.  The ideal set up for my combination would have been an 8 1/2" rim and a 245 with the same back space, but that's not an OTS wheel!
