so there is a Fox in my shed...

And I don't mean just the Sport.
There's an '89 LX 5.0 'vert Stang in there with it.
Friend of mine trailered it over here, said it needed a fuel pump and filter. Did that, still no run, but it acted like it wanted to start oh-so-bad.

Did a little digging, and discovered the ignition switch is separating. Put a big zip tie around it to see if that was indeed the issue, and it started and stayed running.

Knowing the way I think, I couldn't help but take it for a cruise down to town and back. Oh yeh, it needs a top and some TLC, but it's 100% stock. Well, except for some glasspacks and a K&N. Still quiet though.

Now here's the thing...it may be for sale, and since I'm into it for a little work, the owner says I can have first dibs at a reduced price.
It's an AOD car, and that's fine with me. If I end up with this one, I'll have 3 foxes, 2 of which are stangs, and of course the Sport.

Has brand new tires, shocks, struts, quad shocks, exhaust, and a few other things done to it that I can't remember.

Has a couple rust holes, and the clear is peeled, and it all needs waxed like a pimp needs his hoes.
Blue, grey interior, black top. If anything, it's a decent parts supply for my '90 hatch..I'd just need some '90 specific wiring to convert it to 5.0 specs....all the mechanicals are on hand. I've got a 3.55 8.8 in Stang width that I might throw in the 'vert just for the hell of it. It's a little weak in the launch area...I think it's a 2.73 rear gear.

Anyway, no intentions of parting or selling the Sport, but it may take on a whole new being if I do end up with the '89 Stang. It will allow me to have a cruiser car while I build the Bird I've mostly imagined.

PS, , replacement tops and the stuff to go with 'em are $$$. :punchballs:

The bubble wrap under the column is merely to hold the ign. switch together for a short check ride to make sure everything is fit to work with. Have the new switch in now.

Cancerous quarter...there's a guy on Corral and YellowBullet who is starting to sell these panels to weld in. Looks like I'll need to give him a line and get a price.

The other little spot that needs work. Also there's a little crease/long dent under the passenger door, but other than those 3 areas, the body is in really good shape.

And I don't think the top itself is bad, it just doesn't go up. Looks like I'll have to find some literature on it and see what I need to look for.

Should I get it? It runs really well, has either 53 thousand, or 153,000 miles, can't tell, myself. For something that's sat since 2003, once I figured out the switch was bad, it started right up, after draining out the 1/4 tank of gas-smelling varnish and replacing pump and filter. It idles smooth, and is rather quiet despite the glasspacks, so I'm sure the cats are great. The ONLY mod is a K&N air filter and of course the lers. Has new shocks and the trans was serviced awhile back. Have the receipt for the work and parts for it.

I'm not big on 'verts, but it really is too nice of a car to part.
If I do end up with it, it won't get modded, except to put my BBK off road x and the flowmaster set on it, and possibly a decent audio system. Right now, I'd rather clean the hell out of it, but my shop vac died on me.
What do you guys think? I'm not in a position where I'd have to get rid of something else first, and I have all the room I need.

It's definitely remarkable how much easier you can work on your "big deal build"/the anointed vehicle when you have another "fun beater" to play with while doing that. No rush to get it done before summer ends or what have you.

Interior looks pretty un-abused! :)

Yeah, the seats are perfect. Not faded, no holes, tears, burns etc.

I've made several mistakes putting the Tbird together, and if I end up with the vert, they will remembered, but not repeated lol.

I still say finish the Bird. You have to ask yourself....how many projects have you had, work on or started, but never finish. Finish the Bird. I see the pics of the Stang, and it just isn't impressive. In the end, you have to do it for yourself. It doesn't matter what we think. Good luck either way.

The vert would be a driver, not a project. I've little desire to make a topless car fast and stiff(er) lol.

It WOULD allow me to have a fun driver while I work on the Bird though.

If I did anything to the Stang, it would be to put in the 3.55 geared 8.8 I have (it's from a Stang, so might as well), but that's nearly the only thing on that short list of stuff to mod. The rest would be repair/restore/refurbish stuff, and there's not a lot of that, either. Windows, driver door panel, and top. That's it.

I have no doubt this car would pass inspection right now..everything works, brakes are like new, tires, etc.

Like I said, it won't be a project. I've got the other stang for that, and about ALL I've done to it is yank the engine wiring, unbolt everything to remove the 2.3, and I did buy some 460 mounts. The Sport comes first, I just need a break. Hopefully the vert Stang will get me back in focus. I don't really "care" for convertibles, but this one...I dunno. I like it, but I don't want to build it.

I say if you like the car, then you should get it if you can. It's got to be what you like or want. Get it, get the top up, and drive it like you stole it.

Send me a coupla pics sometime, I'm in no hurry. If it doesn't work on the vert I can always save it for the '90 stang whenever I get to it. (it's a hatch car)

Apparently the fuel pump died on it today, I moved it outside to work on another car (for a side job) and it wouldn't start. The fuel relay clicks, but no pump noise, no fuel from the valve on the rail. Will dig into it more later.

Wife says no to the vert...working on talking her into it. Might have to cobble up the 2.3 car and get it outta here...the Sport stays. I'll sell the Chevy stuff first.

if your gung-ho on buying it, someone of yellowbullet is making them lower  quarter panels now. i guess it really does depend on the price. more then anything.

i bought this 83 for 4,500

With a decent built 302, i put the exhaust on it and changed the rear gears. car had 49,000 miles on it.

just as a comparison. i'd say as long as the floor and everything looks good. the car seems nice.

I like it. Having something else to drive is a must, but my secondary cars always end up getting modded. Even  when I have every intention of keeping them stock.

I saw the post(s) on YB, but I'm not registered there, and not 100% sure I want to be lol. But yeah, I might see if I can get ahold of the fella that makes those and get a price. The underside has some surface scale, but the only holes are the quarter and the spot under the driver's door. The top DOES work, but of course needs new fabric. I'd like to put my 3.55 rear in it, and my flowmaster cat back set, and call it a day. I'm sure sooner or later I'd do more to it, but it runs and drives (well, it did run, see previous post lol) so there's no need to mess with that right now...the whole "if it ain't broke, don't fix" thing.

You have a sweet '83, my buddy Steve has an '83 or 84 coupe that he's eventually going to build. I never was a big fan of the ten hole wheels, but I have to admit they've grown on me in a big way the last few days.
I'll post results when I get another f/p put in the vert.
