"Double Hump" crossmember June 14, 2005, 10:40:23 PM I hope you all can help me out with this...I am currently installing dual exhaust on my 1982 Mustang, I know it is not a 'Bird or Cat but I do own an '85 XR7...Anyway, I need to know if the double hump crossmembers from the T-Birds or Cougars will fit my '82 Mustang. I am using a C4 transmission...I don't mind grinding the spot welds to move the mount as I was aware of this mod when using a C4...If they will fit, are there any particular years to look for while at the salvage yard? Thanks in advance... Re: "Double Hump" crossmember Reply #1 – June 14, 2005, 10:56:17 PM you'll still need the stang one for the double hanger for the h-pipe... so just pull one from a stang.you could Look for one on the corral classifieds... Thats where I find alot of parts. Quote Selected
Re: "Double Hump" crossmember Reply #2 – June 14, 2005, 11:20:11 PM thunder306...Thanks for the info...But I am in sort of "pinch" and need one asap... There is a local salvage yard with several 'Birds and Cougars to pick from... I don't need the exhaust mounting components as we are running a three inch exhaust with a x-pipe. The entire exhuast system is welded up, except to the header collectors of course...I take it from your response the 'Bird and Cougar "double hump" crossmembers would fit the '82 Mustang??? Re: "Double Hump" crossmember Reply #3 – June 14, 2005, 11:53:01 PM You'll need to check the width of the current xmember at the frame rails. Seens like I remember they were two different widths... Just checked the Ford Racing catalogue, says Stangs from '82-up are 4 1/2" mounting so you should be OK...The Stangs from '86-'93up have them, '87-'88 Birds and Cougs should also have them... Re: "Double Hump" crossmember Reply #4 – June 15, 2005, 05:40:20 PM I've seen a few 86 5.0's with double humps even though they were single exhaust like the 87 and 88. Quote Selected
