oil filter failure? Reply #4 – September 23, 2012, 11:32:17 PM Hmmm...I've not seen that since I blew out a few of those myself. But in my case, I had either a faulty or the wrong type of oil pump. Upon a cold startup, the first semi-mashing of the gas pedal resulted in this same situation. Changed the pump, never had a problem again.Based upon that, I would guess the issue might lie in the crankcase somewhere...oil pump, pickup clogged, etc.Something seems to be building up pressure and finding the weakest point to release--in this case, the filter.Hope you were using at least a synthetic blend... oil filter failure? Reply #5 – September 23, 2012, 11:50:40 PM this engine in my opinion is about worn out. I plan to build another over the winter/spring and get the car together again. As far as the oil, I have been having a problem with pressure at operating temp. I have been using a 15-40 oil and I dont know if this would of caused this to happen or not but at this point with this engine I really dont care. Quote Selected
oil filter failure? Reply #6 – September 24, 2012, 11:14:37 AM i have never, ever seen a fl-1a have a failure like that. i believe there is another issue. i could totally understand if that was a fram. but not a motorcraft/purolater. Quote Selected
oil filter failure? Reply #7 – September 24, 2012, 12:34:26 PM use the motorcraft fl-1-hp filter. it has much highr burst pressure. Quote Selected
oil filter failure? Reply #8 – September 24, 2012, 12:54:04 PM Well the thing is, this was on a cold start up. Otherwise.... the car has normal oil pressure Quote Selected
oil filter failure? Reply #9 – September 26, 2012, 04:49:48 PM IIRC, it takes 200-300PSI over normal to unroll the seam on an oil filter. (Useless knowledge from my auto parts days...lol) Quote Selected
